This park has some good things going for them. Front desk staff were professional and friendly. Restrooms and showers clean, as was the entire park. The cable TV channels were clear and a good selection was available. The Wi-Fi was spotty but they have several antennas. I found if my connection was not too good, I could "search for available networks" and find a better connection. My best connection was about 768k down...about the same as a low-end DSL connection at home. Park was not crowded and that was a plus. Earlier reports about sites being small are true, but without neighbors you don't notice it. If you had neighbors on both sides I could see where that might be a problem. Our space and those near us had grass and I'm fairly sure all are pull-thru. No space firepits and personal firepits are not allowed. Not overly kid friendly either...no playground, game-room, or things for kids to do except skateboard / scooter on the hills until staff comes to tell them to stop. Freeway close but that's about it...nothing near-by but Palmdale is only about 10 quick freeway miles away.
We pulled in around 5:30pm and our "preferred" area was quite full. Neighbors on both sides and across the street. Not alot of parking for toads or trucks, so streets are packed. Not the ideal situation for backing in to say the least. Web-Site says 4pm check-in time, but you can come before that if you call ahead and your space is open. Check-out is noon so you have good odds of getting early. Staff was friendly and professional. Security was visible and gate was staffed. Free Wi-Fi was solid and tested at about 500kbs...about the same as a low-end DSL connection at home. Good cable channels, picnic bench included at out site...bring your own fire-pit. Overall nice stay and we will be trying Newport Dunes again this summer. This trip was more for a place to stay while in the area; we will come for "fun" next time and will report those results.
This is a really nice park !! We had a pull-through deluxe site and found it clean and large. Plenty of room on both sides for slides, awnings, or whatever. Site came with a picnic table but no fire pit. Good cable channels available. Although I like the security at the front gate, I would like to see two lanes; one for new arrivals and one for registered guests. Long lines formed behind the new arrivals and it was not uncommon to be "stuck" there for five - ten minutes only to be waved by when the guard sees the guest tag hanging from mirror. Lots of amenities and entire park super-clean. I was unable, however, to find a jungle-gym or playground for the kids. WiFi fees do nothing but upset travelers and I would urge Oasis to drop this. I used an ATT data card and had perfect 3G speed. Oasis has a nice family movie night with free popcorn inside the club-house. If not for the long lines at the gate, lack of playground, & free WiFi, I would have given them a perfect 10 !!
We stayed at the Apache Junction KOA after taking in an Angels Spring Training baseball game. Although this is one of the few (and I mean few) parks in Arizona that is not age restricted, it kinda felt like it. We were charged $3/per child (for a total of $12.00 !), the pool closes at 7pm, and there is no game room. I asked about using the "rec room" and was required to post a $10.00 deposit for broken pool sticks and ping-pong paddles. By the way, the rec room closed for us at 8pm (we got to use it about 20 mins) although the sign indicates 8:30pm. The Wi-Fi worked really well and the speed was about 1.5 mbs...about the same as most DSL connections at home. No cable TV is a huge bummer. For one night, I didn't really want to set up the Dish and only had a few acceptable channels via antenna. Was it worth it? After going to near-by Goldfield Ghost Town the following day, yes. Otherwise paying that much and dealing with the traffic for a no-frills park would not really seem worth it for us. The staff was professional and park was clean. All dirt and I did not see a blade of grass anywhere. Spent the following day getting all the rocks and pebbles out of the rig.
We really enjoyed our short (one night) stay here at the San Diego Metro (Chula Vista / National City) KOA. I have been to a few KOA's in California, and this is by far the nicest I've been to. Staff was great and helpful. Check-in and check-out is noon. Restroom and showers were clean. Arcade with video games, pinball, pool table, and books/magazines was a plus. Kids had fun playing basketball, video games, and ping-pong. If there was one down-side (thus the 9 / 10) it was the cable TV. The picture was not crisp (snowy), and when I asked about it, the clerk said they have had no other complaints. Additionally, the park guide (handout) had an outdated/incorrect channel listing. Other than the TV situation, this park was really nice, and we would have liked to stay an extra day or two.
After reading several reviews, mostly here and on RV.net, we were a bit worried to say the least. However, I have to admit, it was a nice stay. I do not think this would be the place to take the wife on a romantic getaway, but for taking the kids, it was nice. Our four little ones (ages 13 down to 4) had a blast! We rented a pedal boat for a couple hours and they enjoyed roaming the bay. Sea Doo's, ski boats, sail boats, catamarans, and other water toys all available for $$$. Sea World fireworks over the bay at night. Bathrooms and showers clean and, oddly enough, the entire park was really quiet after 10pm. A tab bit crowded; had neighbors to both sides and to the rear even though there were other spots that were empty. It would have been nice if the park staggered the occupants a bit more. Also pricey, but where else can you take the family to the beach and spend the night for that? Staff and other campers friendly. Fire pits and bench at every site. The cable TV was outstanding and kids had all the channels they watch at home. Didn't need to set up the DISH and that was an advantage. We would stay here again.
Couple of issues here. I booked this KOA after reading how it's labeled "Fresno South." Shame on me, I thought that meant it was near Fresno. The park is actually in a dumpy area of Visalia, which is about 47 miles south of Fresno. After checking in, unhooking, then driving to Fresno and Clovis, I realized it was too far away from the tournment we were involved in. I made it back to the KOA, hooked back up and boondocked in Fresno because there was NOTHING in Fresno worth even looking at. With that said, the staff was very pleasant and understanding. Although they did not refund that first night (I left at about 9pm after "staying" there two-three hours, they did cancel and refund the second night I had reserved. Additionally, I got a nice hand-written letter in the mail at home from the Managers offering a 20% discount on a future stay. For the little time we were there, the park itself was clean and quiet. Not really busy, but the playground did appear to be under repair. Everything worked as far as we could tell. Bottom line: Do not stay here if you have business in Fresno as it's too far away. Staff is fine and park would be good if you're staying in the Visalia area. Neighborhood is a dump.
Friendly / helpful staff. I called while en route to advise an after-hours arrival (about 10pm). Staff was helpful; they put us in a corner space so not to disturb too many others with our late arrival. Park was clean but no grass to be found. Additionally, I don't remember seeing any trees. Light Rail construction on roads outside park makes traffic a bit more difficult, but does not effect the park or your stay. A fine place to stay for a night while enjoying MLB (go Angels!) Spring Training about 10 minutes away.
Nice park. No frills and it's County-run. If staying in the area for a while, you might want to check out Hurkey Creek or Lake Hemet; both near-by. Idyllwild is a classic mountain community with some great shopping and food. Not a whole lot to do over a few days except nature. Nature walks and some limited mountain climbing are wonderful there. As I said, shopping and eating is good, but you'll be done in one day...two at the most. All shops and food within walking distance, but not from park(s). Take the toad, leave the trailer/motorhome at the site, and venture into town. Park and walk around the shops. Overall fun for family and snow a few times in the winter.
This was our first trip in our new travel trailer. I found the staff helpful and, after dealing over the phone with Pomona (Calif) KOA, a welcome change. Park was clean and quiet. There was a camper using our stall as his personal parking space when we arrived. Once alerted by his friends, he promptly responded and moved his vehicle. We stayed in space 115...directly north of the 91 freeway. I can tell you without hesitation that there was virtually no traffic noise and you should not be concerned with parking there at all. Showers & restrooms clean. If there was one downside, it's here: The "Ropes Course" that is displayed on the parks web-site is actually operated by a different company and was not open when we were there. This could be huge if you are going with your kids...like we did. I found it hard to understand why it was not open over a holiday (Thansgiving) weekend, but is was closed...bummer !!
